Michael D. Jones, Sr. is a native of Hampton, Virginia. He is an honors graduate of Norfolk State University earning a Bachelor's of Science degree in Public School Music. His major instrument of study was the piano and minor instruments were the trombone and organ. He studied composition with Dr. Adolphus Hailstork.
Michael has been a music educator for twenty-nine years. Michael has served as the assistant band director and choral director at Toano Middle School; choral director at Norview Middle School; adjunct jazz band director at Christopher Newport University; elementary general music teacher at Bethesda and Scroggs Elementary Schools and currently serves as Director of Choirs at Culbreth Middle School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Michael was the 2015-2016 Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools District Teacher of the Year; 2018 WRAL Teacher of the Week and inducted into the 2022-2023 Who's Who in America.
Michael is an award winning film composer, composing music for all film scoring genres and has composed original music for plays and musicals. Michael has composed music for the Raleigh Little Theatre (2023, Last Stop on Market Street) and the Cary Arts Center (2023, Miss Nelson is Missing) Michael currently has over 40 IMDb credits.
